AS3824E-ZQFM is a programmable boost regulator with integrated 2~A low-side MOSFET and 0.1~A low-side MOSFET. It is suitable for driving single or multiple LEDs with constant current or constant voltage types. It supports a wide input voltage range (2.5~V to 30~V) and is able to step up and regulate the output voltage up to 25~V to match desired LED voltage. An internal dedicated 4~ms onboard PWM generator is present in order to generate Dim/Wakeup signals.

AS3824E-ZQFM offers features like Over-current protection (OCP), Thermal protection (OTP), Constant output current accuracy protection, Open LED protection, and programmability with I2C data bus. It integrates 2~ms soft start with programmable step size, adjustable Current Limit, and Sleep mode. It provides Ultra-low quiescent current, up to 0.3~A, and supports up to 24~V surge voltage.

In terms of functionality, AS3824E-ZQFM has two main modes of operation—Dim and Wake-up. The Dim mode is the main operating mode of the device which can continuously adjust the current output according to the duty cycle of the PWM signal. When a logic High signal is applied to the on/off pin, the device can be put into sleeping mode. In sleeping mode, quiescent current is reduced to a fraction of the normal operational level.

In terms of working principle, AS3824E-ZQFM uses a switching step-up regulator to boost the incoming supply voltage to a regulated output voltage. This is achieved by switching the N-channel MOSFETs at a given frequency in order to generate an output voltage that follows the duty cycle of the PWM signal. When the internal PWM generator is enabled, the device will detect an output voltage and adjust the current output level to meet the desired output voltage.

AS3824E-ZQFM’s various features make it suitable for a number of applications such as LCD/OLED displays, high-density LED indicators, and power switches. It can also be used as a low-current/high-voltage boost regulator for mobility, communications, and industrial and medical applications.
