ASL2415SHNY is a compact and high performance off-line open loop constant current LED driver specifically designed for the home appliance, residential and commercial lighting, backlighting, and LED bulb markets. The operational characteristic of the ASL2415SHNY can be characterized into three dynamic regions – the inductor-charging region, the transition region, and the capacitor-dischargiing region. During the inductor-charging period, M1 is on and M2 is off. The current in the transformer (T1) flows in the diode (D2) and charges the output capacitor (Cout) and the load. During the transition period, M2 is on and M1 is off, and current will start flowing through the secondary winding in the transformer. The voltage across the secondary winding will decrease during this period, while the current in primary winding increases. The capacitor-discharging period will start after the current of both primary and secondary winding has depleted. During this period, the transformer will turn the stored energy from the output capacitor into current, and the voltage across Cout is automatically regulated and maintained based on the target output current.
