Working Principle

In order to erase the data previously stored, the chip must be exposed to ultraviolet light. This process is known as "erasure". Once erasure is complete, new data can be written to the chip. The data is held in memory until a new write or erase cycle is initiated.

The AT28C040-20BI is a 4Mb (512K x 8) EEPROM. It is capable of both writing and erasing data quickly and accurately. All it needs for these operations is a power supply and few external components to perform read and write operations. It is accessed via an 8-bit data bus and addresses are supplied via a 10-bit address bus.
