Memory is a computer component in which digital data can be stored and retained in a more or less permanent state — that is, until it is deliberately erased or forgotten. Data is saved on memory chips, usually on RAM (random-access memory), ROM (read-only memory), and Flash Memory, which is non-volatile memory that can be written to and read from.

The AT34C02C-TH-B is a member of Atmel Corporation\'s advanced non-volatile memory technology family. It is a high-performance embedded serial EEPROM, part of a series of Atmel\'s 2-wire serial EEPROMs that operate on I²C-compatible 2-wire bus.

The AT34C02C-TH-B is specifically designed for data logging and other storage applications. It is an 8-pin device that contains 8 KB of memory in a standard Industries Small Outline (SOIC) package using a two-wire serial interface. It is also available in a 5-pin SOIC package.

The AT34C02C-TH-B provides both Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and I²C-compatible 2-wire serial interfaces that give users the ability to store up to 64K bytes of data in a serial EEPROM format. It has a data retention period of 100 years and an endurance of up to 200,000 write cycles. It also supports a wide voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V.

The AT34C02C-TH-B is capable of transferring data at up to 1MHz in SPI-compatible or 400kHz in I²C-compatible serial interface modes. These features make it an ideal choice for low-cost, high-performance applications such as medical and automotive data logging, metering systems, calibration systems and other storage applications.

In terms of its working principle, the AT34C02C-TH-B utilizes an array of floating-gate MOS transistors specially designed to store bits of information. Data is then accessed by means of either the SPI or I²C-compatible 2-wire serial interface. This interface allows the device to communicate with a microcontroller for writing and reading of data. It utilizes a master/slave protocol where the AT34C02C-TH-B acts as the slave device and the microcontroller acts as the master device.

The AT34C02C-TH-B also supports an array of security features such as write protection and read protection, a 4-byte or 8-byte write/read command, Code Protection and an on-board facility for an unconditional write enable (UWE).

The AT34C02C-TH-B is a highly versatile memory device ideal for automotive data logging, metering systems, calibration systems, medical and other storage and data logging applications. It offers a wide voltage range, a long data retention period, high endurance and the convenience of both SPI and I²C-compatible 2-wire serial interface. It also features an array of security features that make it a reliable and secure option for any data storage application.
