AT87C54X2-3CSUL is a single-chip microcontroller of the AT89C5XX family. It is manufactured by Atmel. This application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is designed for use in a variety of embedded applications. Examples are digital signal control, data logging, telecommunication control, environmental monitoring, and electronic control systems. The AT87C54X2-3CSUL has two 8-bit timers, a 9-bit counter, two 8-bit PWM channels, two 16-bit A/D converters, and two serial interfaces. It also offers multi-source interrupts and two watchdogs.
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL microcontroller combines the power and flexibility of the 8-bit microprocessor with the low power capability of a low-voltage flash microcontroller. The on-chip features of this device provides system designers with strong control over the design, when compared to using discrete components or even a larger flash microcontroller. With its versatile mix of peripherals and its single-supply flash memory, the AT87C54X2-3CSUL is the ideal choice for micro-computer control in embedded applications.
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL uses an 8-bit Harvard architecture. It is based on the 8051 microcontroller family. The CPU has 16-bit Program Counter (PC) and 16-bit data pointer (DPTR). It also features an 8-bit accumulator and 8-bit data pointer (DPTR). In addition to this, the AT87C54X2-3CSUL includes two 16-bit stack pointers (SP) and various registers such as 8-bit program status word (PSW), 8-bit program status byte (PSB), and 8-bit cycles counter (CCR).
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL features a 2K-byte Program Memory which uses 16-bit addresses and up to 250 instructions. It also has 128 bytes of 8-bit data RAM, 64 bytes of 8-bit scratch RAM, and 32 bytes of registers. In addition, the device has four 8-bit ports, three 16-bit timer/counters, two 16-bit captured-timers, one 12-bit Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) and two serial interfaces. The AT87C54X2-3CSUL also offers an integrated 8-bit ADC and two 8-bit DACs as well as a low power sleep mode.
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL is fault tolerant and comes with a Watchdog Timer (WDT) providing time-outs to prevent system lock-ups. The WDT supports both a long-period and a short-period timeout. The AT87C54X2-3CSUL also features four external interrupts with register-programmable priority. It has three clocks which can be independently selected. This can be done using the Clock Control Register (CLKOC) which also offers clock-doubling and clock-division options.
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL offers various memory protection features. It has a banked code protection and a Data Memory Protection System. This enables the user to protect both their code and data from unintentional overwrites. Furthermore, the device offers brown-out reset which protects the CPU core from sudden voltage fluctuations. It also features a power-up reset and a hardware and software reset.
The AT87C54X2-3CSUL’s flexible 8-bit architecture makes it suitable for a variety of applications, including programmable logic controllers (PLC), remote control and monitoring systems, real-time data acquisition, industrial automation and control systems, robotics, networking systems, and electronic toys.
