The AT93C66B-MAHM-E is a single chip non- volatile memory device. It has been designed to provide non-volatile electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) for use with 8-bit and 16-bit microprocessors. The device combines an array of memory cells with the necessary address decoding, write protection, and data memory cells onto one, small 8-pin package.

The AT93C66B-MAHM-E provides entry level cost performance, low power usage, and a small package size. With the aid of error detection and correction techniques, the AT93C66B-MAHM-E provides reliable operation even in harsh environment. The device can be used in wide range of 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers that require EEPROM memory.

The AT93C66B-MAHM-E contains a 512 bits organized as 256 bytes. The first eight address pins are used to access a single byte. The ninth bit is the memory select bit (MS0) for memory addressing and for specific device write/read functions. The MS0 bit must be logic high for device read and write access. The tenth bit of the address is used to select word-wide or byte-wide operation. Combinations of fast read and random read instructions allows simple memory array mapping in a single operation.

It is 8-pin SOIC and DIP packages that have self-aligning lead frames allowing for easy board insertion. The AT93C66B-MAHM-E provides a write protect pin (WP) which when pulled low allows the system to prevent write operations. This prevents accidental write operations or any unauthorised write operations by the system.

A write operation can be initiated by sending a 9-bit instruction code via the serial interface. The write operation is terminated when the ninth bit of the instruction code is received. A Clock input (CLK) allows a synchronised write operation.The write operation is self-timed and takes 3.75 ms (max) to complete.

The AT93C66B-MAHM-E also provides on-board error detection and correction (EDC) for data integrity during write and read operations. A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code is generated after writing the data. The CRC is checked during read operation to ensure data validity. This EDC provides improved write/read reliability.

Applications for the AT93C66B-MAHM-E include communication systems, power supplies, instrumentation, security systems and automotive electronic packages.
