Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors:

ATB227M6R3 belong to the family of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors, which are polarized components with very high values of capacitance per unit volume. They are typically used in power management systems (like in computer) where large capacitance values are needed in a small package. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors also offers a very good combination of cost and performance.

Application Field of ATB227M6R3:

ATB227M6R3 are bipolar capacitors, meaning that they can handle seen change of voltage polarity without being harmed. They are therefore particularly suited for use in applications with AC voltage or power supply with frequent reverse polarity. Typical application fields include projection televisions, washing machines, ovens, air-conditioners, efficiently filters with harmonic reduction and all kinds of audio electronics.

Working Principle of ATB227M6R3:

ATB227M6R3 are composed of two aluminum foils separated by an electrolyte. The positive terminal contact is made of an oxidized layer of aluminum on one of the foils. The aluminum forms an oxide layer which acts as an insulator. When the capacitor is in use a electric current passes through the electrolyte and between the aluminum foils. This creates an electrical field in the oxide layer. The electric field across the oxide layer creates a charge separation that causes charge storage. This charge storage is the basis for the capacitance of the capacitor.

The capacitance value is largely dependent on the surface area of the electrodes and the distance between them. ATB227M6R3 have two large surfaces to maximize capacitance value. An additional advantage of using the large surfaces is a very low series inductance. This combination of low series inductance and high capacitance makes ATB227M6R3 ideal for use in applications that require high currents in very short pulses.
