1. Describe
The Atmel® ATtiny4/5/9/10 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR® enhanced RISC architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATtiny4/5/9/10 achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS/MHz. This allows system designers to optimize the power consumption and processing speed of the device. The AVR core combines a rich instruction set with 16 general-purpose working registers and system register. All registers are directly connected to the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), allowing two independent registers to be accessed in one instruction executed in one clock cycle. The resulting architecture is compact and code-efficient, while achieving ten times faster throughput than traditional CISC microcontroller. The device offers the following features: 512/1024 bytes of in-system programmable Flash, 32 bytes of SRAM, 4 general purpose I/O lines, 16 general purpose working registers, a 16-bit timer/counter, two PWM channels, Internal and external interrupts, a programmable watchdog timer, internal oscillator, internal calibrated oscillator and four software-selectable power-saving modes. The Loft 5/10 is also equipped with a quad channel and 8-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Idle mode stops the CPU while allowing the SRAM, timers/counters, ADC (ATtiny5/10 only), analog comparators and the interrupt system to continue running. The ADC noise reduction mode minimizes switching noise during ADC conversions by stopping the CPU and all I/O modules except the ADC. In power-down mode registers retain their contents and all chip functions are disabled until the next interrupt or hardware reset. In standby mode, the oscillator runs while the rest of the device sleeps, allowing very fast start-up combined with low power consumption. The device is fabricated using Atmel's high-density non-volatile memory (NVM) technology. On-chip programmable flash memory allows program memory through conventional non-volatile memory programmers. The ATtiny4/5/9/10AVR is supported by a suite of program and system development tools, including a macro assembler and evaluation kit.
