The ATtiny12L-4PC is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture. This device achieves a throughput of 16 MIPS at 4 MHz and memory down to 200 nA at 1.8 V, active SPI and TWI as well as 32-byte instruction execution rate of 99 cycles/MHz. It features 2KBytes of program memory and 288 bytes of I/O and RAM, several 8-bit and 16-bit timers and 32-bit real-time clock/calendar, 8-bit MicroWire serial interfaces, two analog-to-digital converters, and two I/O lines with optional debug module. Apart from its robust design, the ATtiny12L-4PC also has the economical of "Program and Verify" development concept for efficient system configuration and embedded operations.
The ATtiny12L-4PC is ideal for embedded applications, most specifically those related to low energy and low power designs, small size and ruggedness. Its low power consumption makes it ideal for various consumer and industrial embedded systems requiring constant monitoring, as well as monitoring and controlling of complex industrial systems. The chip is also well-suited for medical diagnostic and test instrumentation, automotive and home security systems, remote monitoring and data collection, machine tooling and power management.
In addition to its application in embedded devices, the chip is also useful in the development of various digital communication systems. ATtiny12L-4PC offers an excellent platform for designing RF modules and transceivers for ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and other wireless communication technologies. It also features two 8-bit pulse-width modulators, two 8-bit sample and holds, two 12-bit analog-to-digital converters, four 8-bit analog S/H inputs, four pulse accumulators, four source address registers, four accumulator registers, and two external interrupt pins that make it a perfect fit for advanced communication applications.
The chip works according to the RISC-based AVR advanced architecture, which suggests that its instructions are executed within a single cycle. It runs on a 20 MHz oscillator for instruction fetch and write operations, and on an eight-bit RISC instruction set. This enables to reduce the number of instructions to be decoded and executed, makes the microcontroller robust from a power consumption standpoint, and enables some features like low power sleep mode.
