ATTINY5-TSHR is a general-purpose 8-bit microcontroller from the popular AVR family by Atmel. Being pin- and code-compatible with both ATtiny5 and ATtiny5L, it features a wide voltage range (2.7 to 5.5V), Program Flash memory up to 2K,data Flash up to 64 bytes, a 5 channel 10-bit ADC, and extreme low power consumption with sleep mode and 500nA power-down mode. This makes it suitable for a wide range of embedded applications.
Application Field
ATTINY5-TSHR is mainly used in industrial automation, process control, automobile applications, medical systems, and human machine interfaces. Its core capabilities make it especially suitable for applications including portable battery-powered equipment, automotive and appliance control, measurement systems, and sensors. Its wide range of I/O options and wide operating voltage range give it a real advantage over other microcontrollers.
Working Principle
The ATtiny5-TSHR has an 8-bit core with up to 25 MIPS of throughput. It works with a main active clock speed of 8MHz, with a maximum frequency of 16 MHz and an instruction cycle time of 0.125 μs. With power down mode and sleep mode, it is able to consume 5 µA in standby and 500 nA in power down. It also features up to 2K of program memory and 64 bytes of data memory. It can handle up to five channels of 10-bit ADC and has a hardware-dedicated high-speed multiplier.
The ATtiny5-TSHR provides support for up to 15 general-purpose I/O (GPIO) pins for connecting external peripherals. Depending on the device, multiplexed I/O pins can also support twos Wire Serial Interface (TWI) module, USI module, or enhanced USI module. It also has four analog comparators and a one-wire interface (OWI) module.
The ATtiny5-TSHR features watch-dog timer (WDT) with a total of eight different operation modes, and an on-chip DebugWire interface. DebugWire allows in-circuit debugging with minimal disturbances to the user program. Using the in-system debugging bridge that is built-in to the ATtiny5-TSHR supports the Serial Wire Debug (SWD) protocol, providing debugging access to the core, FPGA and flash memory.
In addition to its built-in peripherals, the ATtiny5-TSHR also provides USART and SPI peripherals with up to 16 GPIO pins in multiplexed configurations. Multiplexing allows to reduce the device pin count and multiplexing of two peripherals on the same pin. The USART and SPI modules can operate in either master or slave mode and offer full duplex data transmission with up to 12Mbps of throughput.
The integrated MITM (Multi-Input-Triggered-Multi-Level) module in the ATtiny5-TSHR enables secure and efficient communication between the processor and external devices in an industrial environment. The MITM module interrupts the processor when a communication request is received, isolates the processor from the external devices, and allows processing only if the request is authenticated.
Finally, the ATtiny5-TSHR also features a debugging module and an on-chip bootloader. The bootloader allows applications to be loaded over a serial link or the integrated on-chip debugger. The debugging module provides potential field, hardware breakpoint, and instruction tracing. Both the bootloader and debugging module can be disabled if not in use.
