Working Principle: The ATV02W360-HF is designed using an avalanche process, which involves two diodes connected in a back-to-back configuration. Under normal operational conditions, the device experiences a forward directed bias voltage and blocks the current from flowing. When a transient event occurs, the voltage across the device increases above the diode’s avalanche threshold and current begins to flow. In this way, the diode can clamp the voltage down to a safe level when voltage surges occur.

ATV02W360-HF is also designed with an integrated voltage limiting functionality, which is used together with the avalanche process to protect sensitive components by limiting the maximum voltage level. When the voltage reaches the clamping voltage, the diode will clamp the voltage to a safe level and absorb the energy.
