AZ1084CS-1.5TRE1 Application Field and Working Principle

Introduction

The AZ1084CS-1.5TRE1 is a linear voltage regulator with the following characteristics: it provides 1.5A output current with a very low dropout voltage of typical 0.7V, and a very low noise (25uVrms). It includes a wide input voltage range of 2.2V to 15V and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 21V. Such features make it an ideal solution for high performance applications that need low dropout, low Nois and high output current.

Application Field and Possible Applications

The AZ1084CS-1.5TRE1 is used for board-level regulation, providing a regulated output voltage at 1.5A load. With its tight output voltage regulation (1mA output current is ±1% over line, load and temperature), it is widely used in applications such as entertainment electronics, automotive, wireless communication system, and industrial applications.This linear voltage regulator is ideal for use on battery-powered remote equipment requiring a high-current output and the immediate availibilty of full-rated output current. Working Principle

The AZ1084CS-1.5TRE1 operates in linear mode (non-switching) and uses an operational amplifier as the main active element, configured as a voltage error amplifier. The voltage error amplifier compares the enable input voltage (EN) with the reference voltage (REF) and produces an output error voltage that controls the output voltage of the regulator.EN (input enable pin) is connected to the reference voltage, and R1 and R2 are used to set the voltage divider coefficients. When the current flows through R1 and R2, the voltage at the EN pin changes. This change is detected by the Error Amplifier (EA) which compares it to the reference voltage (VREF) and produces an error signal in response to the difference. The error signal is then fed to the P-MOSFET which is used to adjust the output voltage.The power output from AZ1084CS-1.5TRE1 is always less than expected as the internal power dissipation is higher than in switching regulators. Also, it converts the excess input energy into heat, making it necessary to select the input and output capacitors appropriately to avoid problems.
