B3104UCLRP is a unidirectional configuration that contains two spark gaps and two metal-oxide varistors. The spark gaps are designed to be self-tripped (triggered) by an external over-voltage event, such as an ESD strike, a lightning surge, or some other form of transient surge. When the voltage reaches the spark gap’s trip point, it triggers a current flow between the two metal-oxide varistors. The current flow limits the amount of voltage seen at the equipment’s input.
