B3104UCLA TP is a mixed technology Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) device, widely used in many applications to provide protection against transient voltages. It is designed to protect on-board drivers from transient voltage faults, providing effective protection from Lighting, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Inductive (Impact) Events.
The main purpose of the B3104UCLA TP is to protect sensitive electronics from transient voltage over-voltage transients. The device achieves this by being able to rapidly detect and clamp transient voltages, while still being able to support both high and low-accuracy voltage thresholds. It also provides high reliability protection from ESD events, and can suppress transients up to 25 KV.
The B3104UCLA TP consists of an integrated combination of two different technologies: a Silicon Avalanche diode, providing its inherent high voltage characteristics, and a Polymer Electrolytic Capacitor, providing its high-current characteristics. This combination of technologies provides high voltage protection, while also providing effective impedance characteristics suitable for a variety of current surges, with a very small amount of energy stored in its component structures.
The device also incorporates an adjustable Transient Current Suppression (TCS) circuit with toggle switches W1, W2, W3 and W4. These switches allow the user to customize the LCR network of the device, in order to adjust the peak current and response time of the device. This allows the user to tailor the device\'s protection characteristics to meet the exact needs of the circuit it is protecting.
The B3104UCLA TP works by monitoring both the input and output voltages. When a transient is detected, the device\'s over-voltage protection circuit is activated, clamping the output device to a selected voltage. The transient current is then suppressed by the device\'s LCR network, preventing any possible damage to the protected device.
The device also incorporates several features for improved reliability. These include an overvoltage protection circuit, a tamper protection circuit with a turn-on delay of up to two hours, a breakdown voltage warning circuit, a temperature/humidity protection circuit, and a transient counter.
The B3104UCLA TP is an ideal device for protecting sensitive electronics from transient voltage events, while still allowing the user to customize its protection characteristics in order to meet the exact needs of the system.
