Working Principle

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are composed of two aluminum foils that are insulated from each other with a thin layer of oxide film. This oxide film acts as a dielectric and hence the name “electrolytic” capacitor. One of the aluminum foils is etched and made into anodes and the other foil is connected to ground. The electrolytic capacitor’s working principle is based on the Faraday Principle, which says that when an electrical current flows through an electrolytic solution, it will cause chemical reactions that will deposit the ions onto the electrodes forming a layer of dielectric. This in turn creates a capacitance on the device.
