The BAT54AWT3G is a semiconductor device comprising three pairs of interconnected diodes encased in a single mould-case. It is used to create an alternating signal of direct current (AC) from an alternating signal of alternating current. This type of signal conversion is known as rectification.
Field of Application
In power supplies, the BAT54AWT3G is mainly used for single-phase full-wave rectification. As the primary voltage source is generally AC, the device is powered with an alternating current, which is then converted into DC for its applications.
The BAT54AWT3G is also commonly used for rectifying the secondary voltages of generators or inverters for AC motors, as well as for determining the velocity speed of motors, electro-dynamic brakes, or remote controls. Working Principle
Since the BAL54AWT3G is comprised of three pairs of interconnected diodes, it functions by using the junction of the two p-n diodes to form a bridge-rectifier circuit. When the pairs of p-n junction diodes are connected in opposite polarities, an alternating current is converted into a kind of direct current (DC). The ratio between the two current types is determined by the amount of ‘on-time’, meaning the amount of time each cycle takes for the device to switch from one diode to the other.
The individual diodes are connected together in a manner such that, when the upper-most diode is forward biased, the lower-most is reverse biased and conversely, when the upper portion of the device is reverse biased, the lower portion is forward biased. The alternating current gap between the forward and reverse biased waves results in a full-wave form, creating a smooth DC supply.
The BAT54AWT3G operates as a full-wave rectifier, which combines two signals of different directions at different times and switches them in a continuous flow to create a filtered, smoother DC output, as opposed to a pulsating DC current.
