The BD5242G-TR is a supervisory device designed to supervise power systems in multifunctional power management control applications. It provides an accurate and extremely wide reset detection window as well as long-term power protection. This device is capable of detecting voltage glitches, power supply brown-out, overtemperature and low-voltage problems, combining three functions in one device: reset detect, temperature sensor, and voltage supervision.

The BD5242G-TR can be divided into two application fields, including microprocessor reset detection field and overvoltage protection field. In microprocessor reset detection field, the device can monitor power supply conditions of microprocessor circuits and detect reset undervoltage and overvoltage. It can prevent improper activation of the circuit due to undesired reset caused by power supply voltage being out of the standard range.

In overvoltage detection field, the device is designed to monitor power supply voltage and protect the circuit from damage or destruction. When it exceeds the fixed overvoltage threshold, the device produces a reset signal which can cause the circuit to halt any power consuming activity, thereby protecting against sudden high voltage changes.

The BD5242G-TR works on the principle of monitoring two power supply voltages simultaneously. The first voltage is the primary power supply voltage, which is generall between 2.5VDC and 12VDC. The second is the reference voltage or reset voltage, which is typically set between 1.4VDC and Vcc (Primary Power Supply Voltage). When the power supply voltage drops below the reference voltage, the resetting pulse is generated.

The reset window of the BD5242G-TR is extremely wide, ranging from 0.3V to almost Vcc (Primary Power Supply Voltage). This makes it ideal for applications which require wide voltage ranges to cover various operating conditions. Additionally, the device offers a long life protection of Vcc voltages up to 20V, while providing fast reset time (< 10μsec).
