BQ24022EVM is an evaluation board kit that helps evaluation of power management IC features and its performance. It is designed to demonstrate the BQ24022 single-cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer switch-mode battery charger with integrated power-path management which can provide the proper and complete charging and discharging. This comprehensive EVM includes system load as well as a USB port allowing visual indication of charge current and charge status for easy system detections as well as interfaces with other peripherals such as electronic load and oscilloscope for more detailed tests.
The BQ24022EVM Features includes PowerPathTM Enable/Disable indicator LED, programmed/progammable current terminations, Power Good indicator LED, input power measurement, Status read back via PMBusTM outputs and Charge or Discharge status indication LED. It provides a single-cell Li-Ion and Li-Polymer battery charging solution up to 2A. The EVM is designed to allow the user to configure various charging parameters such as system input current limit, system input voltage limit and other unique parameters via PMBus.
The BQ24022EVM employs a programmable load board to set charge and discharge current limits. This programmable load board is driven by the BQ24022EVM using I2C protocol. The max continuous output current of the load board is approximately 2.1A. An adjustable voltage bias control signal is used to adjust the load board\'s output voltage range from -2.0V to +2.0V.
The BQ24022 EVM is powered by a Programmable DC Power Supply. The 4-wire power configuration supplies the battery voltage, VIN, VSYS, and PROGRAM signal. The DC power output parameters are programmable using the user interface. The Power Good indicator LED indicates when the programmed DC power is ready and when the VIN supply is greater than 4.5V. The PROGRAM signal is used to program the EVM when it is in programming mode.
The Programmable Current Termination board is used to terminate the charging process of a battery cell. It is driven by a programmable input current limit. This allows the user to program a maximum current limit and terminate the charging process when this limit is met.
To prevent possible short circuit protection, the PMBus interface is employed to program various limiting parameters to protect the system from overload, overcurrent and overvoltage. This allows for protection from the system against overloading, reverse connection and short circuit. The BQ24022EVM also employs the COMP & PROG symbol to indicate the charge and discharge status and to monitor the input power. This symbol is illuminated when the Input Voltage is within the set parameters of the programmed current.
