BQ24050EVM provides designers with the necessary hardware to evaluate their applications. It can provide designers with a complete solution in the evaluation and demonstration of power supply designs. The BQ24050EVM board is a benchtop evaluation tool that combines a flexible, feature-rich power system evaluation platform with key components from the BQ24050 family of devices. The board demonstrates the boost-mode battery charger features and can provide users with system-level performance and optimization.The BQ24050EVM board provides several power generation and management features for designers to explore and evaluate. The Charger Mode allows users to easily configure an efficient battery charging system with the BQ24050’s Charge Mode selector. This selection allows users to select between constant-current/constant-voltage modes or low power modes among others. Also, a charging interrupt feature helps facilitate low power applications, where the charge cycle can be suspended at the peak current.The BQ24050EVM board also features a High-Speed Transition Mode, allowing for quick system transitions from constant current/constant voltage battery charging to battery discharging in less than 25us. Furthermore, the BQ24050EVM board’s output voltage selection can be adjusted between 4.25V to 16V, allowing customers to acquire detailed insight into their solution’s power system operation before committing to application implementation.The working principle of the BQ24050EVM board is based on the BQ24050 Family, a fully integrated 2-inch square, 40-V Li+ battery charger solution featuring a boost mode battery charger along with a high-speed transition mode. This architecture allows for a high input voltage range of 6V to 28V, with a maximum charge current of up to one amp and intelligent system monitoring and control features.The BQ24050 device includes an internal N-channel MOSFET designed to support a 1A maximum charge current and low thermal dissipation specially designed for consumer applications with up to 4V load. The gate driver used in the BQ24050 device is manufactured in a proprietary high-voltage process to ensure a superior level of performance over standard 5V/3V solutions. Furthermore, the BQ24050 device utilizes a low-side current sense amplifier to provide an extremely accurate current readout for use in battery charging and discharging.The FE algorithm used by the BQ24050 Family makes the component ideal for powering high-end battery powered applications. An integrated FET is capable of up to 1A current limit, and the temperature coefficient is adjustable for a wide range of battery types. High and low protection levels can be set to provide enhanced system protection in case of a fault. Additionally, the BQ24050’s pushbutton selectable charge settings make it possible to customize system operations according to user preference.The features and performance of the BQ24050 Family make it an ideal solution for energy-efficient designs, and it can be used in a variety of applications, from consumer electronics devices to medical wearables.
