The BQ24261MRGET is a highly efficient, complete single-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery charger. It includes a 18V maximum bus voltage regulator with up to 1.4A operating current, integrated 3-bit current/voltage monitoring and temperature monitoring, and a selectable charge termination current sensing capability. This integrated device offers system designers a convenient solution for charging a single-cell battery from an unregulated adapter or USB port. The BQ24261MRGET is optimized for high efficiency, maximum flexibility and fault protection designed to minimize the external component count and simplify the system design.
Application Field
The BQ24261MRGET is a complete programmable approach to offer a single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery charging solution. This device enables direct connection of an unregulated adapter or USB port to a single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery. It operates in a buck, boost, or buck-boost mode, providing the ability to charge from sources with input voltages higher or lower than the battery voltage. Maximum flexibility is provided by using configurable registers to set the charge current, input voltage regulation, charge termination, and other operating parameters.
The BQ24261MRGET is ideal for charging a single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery in a wide variety of consumer and industrial applications, including laptops, tablet PCs, mobile phones, digital cameras, media players and exercise apparatus.
Working Principle:
The BQ24261MRGET Current Mode Battery Charger is a complete charging solution for single-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries. The input voltage is regulated to the maximum bus voltage of 18V. The charging current and the final charge voltage can be adjusted by programming the configuration bits of the registers.
The BQ24261MRGET synchronous buck converter uses a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control scheme. In order to achieve a high efficiency, the transistor conduction and switching losses are minimized. The output voltage is optimized for charging requirements of single-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries.
The safety and protection features integrate an analog temperature monitor with an external NTC thermistor. The BQ24261MRGET is capable of detecting an over voltage, over current and over temperature condition. These conditions will cause the device to stop charging and go into a fault state.
The BQ24261MRGET can be programmed to fast or slow charge current rate during charging. The Current Mode parameter allows the charge current to be programmed in 7 steps ranging from 400mA to 1400mA. The external R/C components are used to set the charge termination current. The Precision Voltage Monitor (PMV) provides over voltage protection for the battery by monitoring the battery voltage, and an LDO is included for setting the Float Voltage and protecting the battery from over charging.
The BQ24261MRGET chargers offer a complete solution for single cell Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Polymer battery applicatons and is a cost-effective solution for system designers.
