BQ24103AEVM is a cost-effective and reliable evaluation board which can measure and demonstrate the working principle and application field of BQ24103A. BQ24103A is a 3-A, integrated Li-ion battery charger IC with an internal power MOSFET. The IC features System-Side Regulation (SSR) that enables autonomous operation by using the systems power-path management and dynamic system load modification. The SSR provides a continuous electrolyte source to the system load and the BQ24103A. The BQ24103A also provides a safety feature of input current regulation under over-current fault conditions.

The BQ24103AEVM features a wide range of settings to test different use cases. It provides a small solution size of 21mm2 for applications in multiple products. The BQ24103AEVM includes a single board containing all charging functions. The charging functions can be tested by configuration of a few jumpers. The protection circuits including Battery Under Voltage Lock Out (BULO) and input current regulation (ICR) are also configurable by several ways.

BQ24103A integrates a state-of-the-art buck-boost along with a power-path control circuit to charge Li-ion batteries from USB sources and general wall adaptors. It also provides capability to charge two batteries in parallel, thus providing flexibility for embedded or portable application systems. The charging current can be programmed by adjusting the external resistors. The BQ24103A also features adjustable ICR limits which can be used to adjust the maximum average input current limit.

The battery charger with USB source is connected to the BQ24103AEVM as input power source and a Li-ion battery is connected to the evaluation board, for the charging process. The battery charge current is monitored and adjusted by the input current regulation as the battery reaches end of charge condition. The BQ24103AEVM also features a graphical user interface (GUI) software for controlling and monitoring the charging process. This GUI displays the charge state of the battery, input current and output voltage, overcharge current, battery voltage, battery temperature, and other parameters.
