The resistor network on the bq24251 is used to sense current into the load, a constant current loop regulator (CCLR), which constantly reads the current that flows through the input, and controls the switch switching frequency though an analog voltage regulator. The bq24251 also contains an inductor with resistance to current changes and voltage measurements to detect the voltage on the battery quickly.
When both the input current and voltage are within acceptable limits, and the internal temperature sensor is within the specified temperature range, the bq24251 will regulate the current and voltage within the set limits and switch off the PMOS. The voltage across the inductor is then used to calculate the current in the output. Once the battery current reaches its regulated constant value, then the charger will switch off the MOSFET and allow the battery to discharge without overcharging it. The bq24251 will also monitor the cell temperature to ensure a maintained safe charging environment.
