The BQ34Z110EVM (evaluation and demonstration board and kit) is an advanced battery monitoring and fuel gauging platform developed by Texas Instruments. The system characterizes the behavior of Li-ion batteries over their lifetime and communicates with the bqFS firmware to control the safety features and monitor the battery conditions. It provides accurate fuel-gauging with a sampling frequency up to 4 kHz, a high current-sensing resolution of 1 µA, and a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. The IC also provides safety isolation with power FETs and isolates input and output lines to protect the system from system level failure due to output short or ESD pulses.
The BQ34Z110EVM also includes several additional features to further enhance its performance and durability. It supports temperature compensation of fuel-gauging cell voltage in the presence of extreme temperature variation, and provides charge and discharge voltage limiting. In addition, it has a unique cell balancing feature that can adjust cell imbalance of up to 0.15V per cell. This feature helps reduce cell voltage drift and minimize battery swelling.
The BQ34Z110EVM is designed as a complete system solution for battery monitoring applications, simplifying integration and providing comprehensive features and capabilities. Through TI\'s development tools, software libraries, and design guidelines, the platform can be quickly customized and adapted for a variety of applications.
