A Logic High on the WP pin inhibits the write cycles on the whole chip while a Logic Low allows write cycles.

The working principle of the BR24C08-RDW6TP is based on the more general non-volatile memory principle. This chip uses a CMOS/NVM memory. NMOS NAND cell, means it consists of 6 transistors and a data storage node that is connected to the control gate of all of transistors. When this node is charged, it represents a logic 1; when the node is discharged, it represents a logic 0. When the node voltage is between 0 and Vcc, it represents the “Non-static” state. When power is applied, this node will be charged or discharged according to the stored data in the cell. An external EEPROM control technology is used to control the reading and writing of the memory. In order to write the data, the chip needs to be pre-erased to the "non-static" state, followed by programming and encoding. Finally, the data is written in the CMOS/NVM memory. Therefore, the chip can store data without power, ensuring that data is not lost even after power-off.
