Thyristors - TRIACsA TRIAC is a three-terminal electronic switch made up of two transistors connected together in inverse parallel that can be used for controlling AC power. It was developed by General Electric in the 1950s and has since made its way into industrial, consumer, and commercial applications for the control of voltage and current. The BT131-800E/L01EP is a TRIAC made by NXP Semiconductors and is commonly used in motor speed control, dimmers, and light controllers.The BT131-800E/L01EP is a sensitive-gate TRIAC and is capable of being triggered by a small gate current, allowing it to be used in a variety of applications. The device then remains in a conducting state until the gate current is removed, which then causes the device to turn off. This switching action of the device is controlled by the gate current and is dependent on the resistance of the device and the amount of current flowing through it.The BT131-800E/L01EP is an ideal device for switching voltage and current due to its ease of use and low cost. It is capable of controlling AC motors, dimming lights and controlling temperature. Its sensitivity to gate voltage makes it possible to use it in a variety of applications and its wide voltage and current ratings make it possible to use it in a range of medium-power applications.
