The phase angle of positive and negative alternate currents is adjusted by altering the capacitance of the bridge rectifier. The bridge rectifier then utilizes this alternating current flow to perform the rectification process.

When the alternating current is of positive magnitude, the B terminal is subjected to the rectified voltage and thus current already flows through the B terminal, while no current flows through the D terminal. This causes charge to start to build up at the C terminal due to the accumulation of the same type of charges on either side of the bridge rectifier.

When the alternating current reverses its direction and turns negative, the situation is reversed on the bridge rectifier. The D terminal is now subjected to the rectified voltage and the current flows through it, while the B terminal experiences no current flow and the C terminal experiences charge buildup caused by the accumulation of the opposite type of charges.

The opposite charges, now present at the C terminal of the bridge rectifier, cause a built-in switching action between the two pairs of terminal blocks A,B and C,D. As a result of this action, the alternating current is rectified into a direct current voltage at the output terminals B and D of the BU1008A-E3/45.

Apart from carrying out its rectification task, the BU1008A-E3/45 bridge rectifier also includes a variety of advanced protection features. This includes an overvoltage protection circuit that prevents damage to the rectifier due to short circuit or overload, an overcurrent protection circuit that protects against excessive current load and an ESD protection circuit that guards against electromagnetic interference.
