Power management ICs, often referred to as PMICs, are designed for the purpose of converting and regulating power. PMICs are a type of integrated circuits that are responsible for monitoring, controlling and managing voltages, currents, regulators and supervisory functions. Supervisory PMICs, in particular, are responsible for providing special external components in determining the warning and alarming level of a system or circuit. The BU4838G-TR is a type of 3-channel supervisory IC that is designed for providing the system the most adequate protection for a range of applications.

The BU4838G-TR contains three voltage detectors and one time base circuit, as well as a reset output circuit. Each of the three channels have independent threshold comparators, allowing the BU4838G-TR to receive three separate input voltages. When either one of the three output signals is equal to 0, the BU4838G-TR restarts its internal time base circuit, which works together with the reset output circuit to output a reset signal to the system, or to other external ICs, in order to reset the system. The reset signal will then remain for the duration of the reset time, as set by an external capacitor, before the reset output and the system reverts back to its pre-reset state. The BU4838G-TR also has the additional function of providing an internal reset input, which can be used to reset the reset output line once it has gone active.

The BU4838G-TR is best used in applications where input levels must be monitored, as well as when power must be shut off when certain levels are exceeded. This makes the BU4838G-TR ideal for voltage based monitoring processes such as overvoltage and undervoltage protection. The BU4838G-TR can also be used for system reset functions, including manual reset and for watchdog timer reset, which is a process whereby an external IC will be reset when it is no longer functioning correctly. Therefore, the BU4838G-TR can be used for a wide variety of applications and helps ensure the stability of a system.
