Working Principle
The BYW84-TR single diode rectifier consists of two components, an anode and a cathode. When the diode is forward biased, current flows from the anode to the cathode, as electrons from the anode are attracted to the positively-charged cathode. The electric potential difference, or voltage, between the anode and cathode is known as the “forward voltage drop.” This forward voltage drop is usually between 0.5V and 1.2V, depending on the specific diode.
When the diode is reverse biased (i.e., the anode is more positively charged than the cathode), current doesn\'t flow and the voltage difference is also known as the “reverse voltage drop.” When the voltage across the diode reaches a certain threshold, often referred to as “breakdown voltage,” current begins to flow, allowing the voltage across the diode to increase.
The BYW84-TR single diode rectifier is not only efficient in converting AC to DC, but also offers excellent EMI performance. This is due to the device’s low forward voltage drop and reverse voltage drop, which reduces the power dissipation and minimizes noise generated from the device.
