Zener Diode is a silicon diode that allows current to flow in the forward direction like a normal diode. BZD27C22PHRFG is configured to achieve the required characteristics assigned by the user. It is a passive component which means it requires no external power source to maintain its regulator function. This Zener Diode works according to the PN Junction Diode characteristic. The forward bias junction aids the current flow from the higher potential to the lower potential. When a reverse bias voltage greater than the Zener voltage is applied, then the Zener Diode is forward biased. This aids the current flow from the lower potential to the higher potential.Under Forward Bias:When the anode of the diode is of higher potential and the cathode is lower, the diode will be forward biased. In forward bias, the junction allows the current to flow in an easy manner, just like an open switch. This is known as a closed switch. Under Reverse Bias:When the cathode of the diode has the higher potential and the anode is of lower potential, the diode is in reverse bias. The junction will not allow the current to easily flow in the opposite direction. The Electrons that cross the Reverse Bias junction makes the potential barrier weak and suable enough.The resistance of the Zener diode is very low in the forward conducting mode when the current is limited to a significant amount, and it is high in the reverse blocking mode when the current is low. This gives the diode its characteristic of being able to hold voltage at a definite level when the reverse voltage is above the Zener voltage.This PN Junction is used to regulate the input voltage in a circuit. The input voltage will be greater than the output voltage, and the PN junction created by BZD27C22PHRFG acts like a clamp, or a as a reference voltage, limiting the voltage after passed through the diode to its Zener voltage level.Additionally, the diode also helps in protection of circuits against overvoltage, like a clamp. BZD27C22PHRFG is designed to provide more consistent results for regulated power supply.
