A BZW03D22-TR is a Zener diode specifically designed for use in General Purpose, High Speed/Low Power Applications. Zener diodes are used to create a stable and easily adjustable voltage reference in circuits. The BZW03D22-TR is a single, 22 Volt Zener diode that offers a power dissipation of 500 mW and a peak forward and reverse surge current of 1.5 A.Working Principle
Zener diodes work by leveraging the effect of reverse voltage breakdown. In a diode, forward voltage is defined as a voltage applied in one direction (in this case, the anode-to-cathode direction) resulting in current flow. However, when the applied voltage is reversed, what is known as the Zener effect occurs. The Zener effect is an avalanche breakdown between two junction levels or the depletion layer due to electric fields. This results in a large amount of current flow in the opposite direction as before, known as the Zener current. This adjustable current is what permits Zener diodes to be used as voltage references in circuits.Application Field
The low power and high speed offered by the BZW03D22-TR makes it well suited for a variety of applications. It is commonly used in DC-to-DC converters, linear regulators, load balancing and even battery balancing.
