Application Field

The BZW04-14B-E3/54 series of TVS diodes is suitable for lightning surges, fast transients and other pulse events that may occur in the automotive and industrial environments. These diodes also offer ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection for consumer electronics and telecommunications applications. With its decent voltage clamping capability of 12 V to 48 V, these diodes are suitable for most current automotive systems, IGBTs, and low voltage logic systems.

Working Principle

TVS diodes are unidirectional structures that can only conduct current for one polarity. When a positive voltage is applied to the anode terminal of the diode, the diode is biased into conduction and current flows through it. When the reverse voltage is applied, conduction no longer occurs and the TVS clamps down the voltage.

BZW04-14B-E3/54 series of TVS diodes from Littelfuse integrate a dual sidewall design that significantly improves the device junction temperature with the presence of multiple heat conducting pathways. They also consider the effects of mechanical stress on the power derating curve, which helps the components to withstand the large current surges present during accidents and other transient situations.

These diodes have excellent clamping capability and low clamping voltage, making them ideal for use in automotive applications. Also, their high surge current handling capability allows for protection of the system even during extreme transient events.
