Overview

BZW04-33B is a 3.3V, 500W surge uni-directional TVS diode designed to protect sensitive electronics from overvoltage transients caused by load switching, electric induction, and static discharges. It provides electrical overvoltage protection and as such, saves neural and electronic circuits from damages. The diode operates in the breakdown region when a voltage between two terminals reaches the peak avalanche voltage (PV). It then conducts in the breakdown area, resulting in transient suppression and the clamping of protected circuits.

Structure of the Device

The BZW04-33B TVS diode consists of two contacts that are connected by a diode junction. The diode junction consists of a silicon layer sandwiched between two layers of p-type and n-type semiconductor materials. When a voltage greater than the PIV is applied to the diode junction, a current will flow, allowing the voltage to be clamped at a safe level. Typically, the currentMax limit for this device is 200mA.

Operation of the BZW04-33B

The BZW04-33B works by conducting the current flow through the diode junction when an overvoltage transient is detected. To operate properly, the device must be connected between the power node and ground node in the circuit, so that it can absorb the overvoltage spikes and prevent them from damaging the sensitive internal circuitry. When a voltage greater than the PIV is applied to the diode junction, it starts to conduct and the current flow is clamped to a safe level. The device is fast responding, with a typical response time of less than 1 nanosecond.

Applications of the BZW04-33B

The BZW04-33B TVS diode can be used for a wide range of applications where it is necessary to protect sensitive electrical and electronic components from overvoltage transients.
