TVS (transient voltage suppressors) diodes are the essential components to protect transient voltages that could otherwise damage electrical or electronic equipment or cause data losses. BZW04-85 R1G is one of the TVS diodes or protection diodes used to protect electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning or other transient voltage events.BZW04-85 R1G is a bidirectional TVS diode with a stand-off voltage (VWM) of 8.5 Volts, a half-peak voltage of 6.8 Volts (VBR) and an intensive current peak (IPPM) of 0.8 Amp. It is designed to protect electronic equipment from transient voltage up to 900 Volts, and its peak pulse power capability is up to 5 Watt. This diode also offers a fast response time of less than 5 nanoseconds and a holding of up to 25 Amps.BZW04-85 R1G is widely used to protect systems and objects, such as relays, batteries, drivers, control panels, printed circuit boards, and domestic appliances from transient voltages caused by lightning or other overvoltage events. It is suitable for AC power line overvoltage surge suppression, and its application field covers the fields of industrial and commercial, residential, communication and automotive electronics.In terms of its working principle, the diode works by providing an electrical path for the surge energy that is generated by transient voltages. It is able to divert the energy away from sensitive electronic components, thus protecting them from damage. As an unidirectional TVS diode, BZW04-85 R1G offers a breakdown voltage between its anode and cathode. When the applied voltage reaches a certain level, the diode will conduct and provide a path for the energy. The kinetic energy of the surge will be safely dissipated into the ground and the equipment will be protected from the transient voltage.In addition, BZW04-85 R1G have built-in overcurrent protection features which are triggered under high-current pulses.
