Through Hole Resistors
A through-hole resistor (also known as a wirewound resistor) is a type of resistor that is designed to handle large volumes of electrical current. They are typically mounted on a circuit board and provide a low resistance path for current to travel through. This makes them ideal for applications such as load balancing, voltage regulation, and other high-power applications. The most common type of through-hole resistor is the carbon composition resistor, which is made up of a mixture of carbon and a matrix material such as ceramic or glass.
One of the more commonly used through-hole resistors is the CBT50J150K. This device is used in various fields such as scientific research, medical instrumentation, military and aerospace applications, and cooling systems. It is a through-hole power resistor designed for use in high-power electronic applications where high heat dissipation is needed. It is suitable for voltages up to 150V and heat dissipations up to 50 W. The CBT50J150K is capable of handling a wide range of temperatures from -55°C to +225°C.
Working Principle
Inside the CBT50J150K, a thin film of carbon and other matrix materials are applied to an overall substrate. The film is then patterned to form resistive elements that are connected together to achieve the desired resistance value. The thin film is deposited over a series of grooved patterns to form resistors and other components. By varying the frequency, resistance value, and amplitude of the pulses applied to the thin film layer, different resistance values can be obtained.
Once the film is patterned and completed, the resistors are connected to electric terminals. When an electric current is applied to the resistor, the current will travel through the resistors and generate a voltage across the resistors. This voltage is proportional to the resistance of the resistors. The magnitude of the voltage is determined by the applied current and internal resistance of the resistor.
The CBT50J150K has an excellent heat dissipation to size ratio and can handle temperatures up to 50 watts. Its is manufactured with a thick base material that provides a strong mechanical base to support the large amount of current that passes through it. The unique structure of the resistor helps to limit the amount of generated heat and noise. This makes it ideal for applications that require high power and low heat dissipation.
The CBT50J150K is designed to provide a reliable, accurate, and cost-efficient solution to any application in which a high-power resistor is needed. It can be used for voltage regulation, load balancing, and other high-power applications. With its excellent temperature handling and high efficiency, it is one of the most widely used through-hole resistors in the market today.
