CD4024BPWR is an application logic circuit developed by the Texas Instruments Company, widely used in different aspects of the circuit and has a variety of modifications. It is widely applied in data communication, communication transmission, frequency division and a variety of logic control & Status detection circuit.

Ranges of application field of the CD4024BPWR can be divided into two broad fields: logic and counting division. As a logic device, it is widely used in those circuits requiring logic analysis, forming the core of logic modules and signaling systems. As for its division function, signals will processed with each division period.

Based on D-Type flip-flop and a programmable divide-by-N counter satisfying the function unit selection, the design of the CD4024BPWR circuit adopts the method with logic input / output from the same channel. It is equipped with ten stage divide-by-N dividend control logic, each with two control settings.

The features of the frequency division provided by the CD4024BPWR can be summarized as the following

  • High-speed division, maximum frequency is up to 2MHz
  • Relatively high accuracy division
  • The number of the division frequency can be divided with the programmable range is 2~1023
  • Subdivision frequency width setting can be from 0.5 Hz to 2~7 kHz
  • Division frequency sequence that can be set from low to high or from high to low.

Working principle of CD4024BPWR.

CD4024BPWR consists of 3 different parts: a 10-stage counter circuit, an enable control part and a power ON reset part.

The 10-stage counter is the main part of CD4024BPWR, which is composed of 10 JK flip-flops. After each level of logic signal input, 10 flip-flops operate sequentially and take the preceding signal output as the next logic signal input. The logic signal output from the 10th flip-flop will be treated as the counter output.

The enable control part is mainly used to control the positive or negative signal of the clock signal pin (CLK) for the counter circuit so that the signal is only effective once the enable signal is being outputted from ENA line. With that said, it will start the counter.

The power ON reset part is mainly used to detect the positive and negative status of VDD pin. When the power is opened, the output signal of this part is the RQ. Under low power condition, RQ can clear the content of the 10-stage counter circuit.

Therefore, the main working principle of CD4024BPWR is to input a logic signal and output a logic signal of a certain frequency or period after being processed by the 10-stage counter circuit and enabled by the ENA signal. This logic signal can then be used as the logical determination or timing signal.

In conclusion, CD4024BPWR is a device that possess power frequency division function and is mainly used in those requiring satisfactory timing performance such as data communication and remote control system. As for its working principle, the 10-stage counter circuit does not start its working until a positive signal from the enable control part and it will count up as the logic signal generated from the input signal is being processed. Thus, the final output is the logic signal of a certain frequency or period.
