CD4066BME4 (hereinafter referred to as CD4066) is a CMOS quad bilateral switch, which belongs to the Logic - Signal Switches, Multiplexers, Decoders category of electronic components. Basically, It is an electronic device designed to switch signals from one circuit to another or from one device to another. The CD4066 can be used as a controlled analog switch and is useful for multiple applications in analog, digital and audio circuits.CD4066 consists of four independent switching circuits which are controlled by inputs A and B. Each switch circuit has two control inputs A and B and an output Y. The path between the data input and Y is closed when both inputs A and B are in the logic ‘high’ level. The inputs of the switch are RF thresh-holds. Due to this, the switch’s digital inputs can be activated by pulses or logic signals. When both A and B are low, the switch circuit is in the off state.The CD4066 switch is capable to transmit signals in both directions, which makes it suitable for differential signal applications. In addition, the CD4066 has low ON resistance and high OFF impedance to ensure low-to-no signal distortion. It also features bidirectional operation, very low ON resistance and excellent OFF isolation which helps reduce noise or interference from outside sources. Additionally, the CD4066 is designed to work over a wide operating voltage range (2.5 V to 12 V) and temperature range (-55 °C to 125 °C).In terms of application field, CD4066 is ideal for any analog, digital and audio circuit that requires switching signals from one circuit to another or from one device to another. Some of the most common applications of CD4066 include signal switching, signal multiplexing, and signal demultiplexing. It can also be used as a multiplexer, decoder, signal switch, signal selector, signal sampler and crossover switch. Additionally, it is especially useful in signal routing applications due to its bidirectional technical features.The working principle of CD4066 is quite simple. When the signal inputs A and B are equal and at the logic high level, the corresponding switch circuit is enabled and current flows from the data input to the Y output. If either of the signal inputs A or B is at the logic low level, the switch circuit is disabled and the current from the data input to the Y output is blocked.In conclusion, CD4066 is a versatile switching device suitable for a wide range of applications including signal switching, multiplexing, and demultiplexing in analog, digital and audio circuit.
