CD4514BE Application Field and Working PrincipleThe CD4514BE CMOS through-hole components are particularly designed for logic-signal switching, multiplexing, and decoding purposes. These devices provide a broad range of features, including: excellent noise immunity, high gain, low drive current, and small packages. Coupled with their excellent output characteristics, these devices make them ideal for high frequency switching/multiplexing/decoding in a wide variety of applications.CD4514BE is a through-hole CMOS logic IC that provides users with the possibility of switching and multiplexing various logic signals. It features a 16-pin Dual-In-Line (DIP) package type that contains eight Digital Signal Inputs (DSI) to a Decoder along with single chip select (S0) and output enable (OE) pins and two complementary outputs (Y0 and Y1), as well as sixteen unique terminals for logic level signals and dual rail power supply, synchronous logic, and internal flip-flops. The device is pin-compatible with the popular Fairchild 74HC4514.CD4514BE utilizes a multiplexing scheme to drive logic signals from the DSI inputs to the output, greatly reducing the total number of components needed to be present for the job. It uses two independent 16-bits decoding modules with gates. The first one is responsible for driving the logic signals, while the second one is responsible for providing the outputs.The circuitry of CD4514BE is based on a logic-level switch matrix, which is used to switch or multiplex logic signals from the inputs to the outputs. The logic levels are selected by the user by programming the chip select (S0) and the output enable (OE) pins. The device then performs the job according to the settings that were programmed. The device is equipped with an internal buffer to ensure that the logic signals are passed over to the outputs without any loss in efficiency.When the S0 pin is set to logic high, the logic levels are fed through from the DSI inputs to the Y0 and Y1 outputs. As soon as the S0 pin is set to logic low, the output enable (OE) pin is activated and the logic levels are driven off to the outputs. The DSI inputs will be inactive and the output will be disabled until a S0 pin is set to logic high.Internally, a flip-flop is used to store the logic states of each DSI input when the output is enabled. This allows the IC to quickly switch from logic high to logic low, as well as to detect any logic low/logic high signals at the inputs. When the S0 pin is set to logic low, the logic states of the DSI are stored in the flip-flop and can be recalled when the S0 pin is set to logic high.CD4514BE is a cost-effective and reliable device for applications that require fast switching between multiple digital signals. Its ease of programming and ability to operate using a dual rail power supply make it suitable for digital applications that require high frequency operation.
