Logic - Flip Flops
CD74HC107E is an integrated circuit chip (IC) which combines the advanced CMOS and bipolar silicon technologies for a reliable application in the field of flip-flop logic. It is a quadruple positive-edge triggered D-type flip-flop. Consisting of four flip-flops, it functions as two independent sets of two flip-flops.In general, flip-flops are asynchronous binary single-bit storage devices used for holding a binary number. They are electrical components used to store digital information in the form of binary data bits and are usually constructed with two stable states, basically on and off. A flip-flop can be seen as a memory cell and has two inputs, one for the current value to be written to it and one for the next value to be written.The CD74HC107E family of flip-flops have been designed using advanced CMOS and bipolar silicon technologies, enabling them to be directly driven by TTL levels, providing high noise immunity and increased power supply range. They have high switching speeds and they are CMOS compatible with a wide range of power supply voltages (2.0 volts to 6.0 volts). At the core of this IC lies the circuit blocks which provide the basic logical application. Its internal circuitry contains four D-type flip-flop (D1, D2, D3, D4) connected to the clock signal and Data inputs. All the four flip-flops share a common Clock signal which is driven by an external logic source. The four flip-flops can operate as two independent sets of two flip-flops, with each set having individual Data, Set and Reset inputs. Additionally, all four D type flip-flops can be reset at the same time by providing a Reset signal. This reset will be effective on both of the independent two-bit sets. The CD74HC107E also have asynchronous reset inputs. When the reset signal is Logic LOW, the outputs of the all the four flip flops will be reset regardless of the clock signal and no rising edge of the clock signal is required to make this reset active. The CD74HC107E is a simple yet immensely versatile and powerful device when used in a range of flip-flop applications. One of the most common applications of this IC is in sequential logic circuits. In this logic family, an event is always dependant on the previous event and such interaction with the previous event results in a change in the module\'s state. Consequently, flip-flops and other memory devices form an integral part of such logic families as they are used to hold the state of the module at a particular instant. Flip-flops are not just limited to this usage and can be used for frequency division and pulse width modulation as well as arithmetic circuit applications. The CD74HC107E is particularly useful as its programmable reset and delay capabilities can be used to create a wide range of synchronous and asynchronous digital logic circuits.
