CD74HC4051MDR is an IC produced by Texas Instruments. It is a low power CMOS logic noise-immune universal eight-channel digital multiplexer / demultiplexer. It utilizes Texas Instruments’ proprietary silicon-gate CMOS technology which makes it perfect for analog and digital applications. The IC can be operated over a temperature range of -40 to +85 degree Celsius.This IC is mainly used in interface between two or more systems for analog or digital multiplexing/demultiplexing operations. It is also used to connect or disconnect external components such as sensors, potentiometers, switches and other digital or analog components from the internal logic block of the main application.CD74HC4051MDR operates by providing a logic input, typically voltage level which determines the logic output. It consists of three 8-bit binary coded address inputs (A0-A2), an active low enable (E) input, and eight 17-bit multiplexer/demultiplexer outputs (Y0-Y7).For switching operation, the 8-bit coded address applied to the address pins (A0-A2) determines which of the multiplexer output pins (Y0-Y7) is connected to the common data pin terminal, and the enable input is used to enable and disable the outputs. The data applied to the common data input terminal is either connected to one of the multiplexer output pins when the enable pin is low, or disconnected from all output pins when the enable pin is high. Thus, the logic input applied to the enable pin determines the logic output from the output pins.In addition, this IC also provides additional features such as protection from static damage by using ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection diodes, reverse diode protection in the input and output terminals and also thermal protection, allowing for better reliability of this IC.Overall, CD74HC4051MDREP IC is a widely used universal 8-channel digital multiplexer/demultiplexer, which provides reliable performance and great flexibility in applications involving both analog and digital multiplexing/demultiplexing operations.
