The CDB5571-2 evaluation board is used to assess the performance of Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs). It is an 8-channel (each channel configurable to either differential or single ended inputs). It’s designed to be used with an evaluation platform such as a programmable logic development board.
This evaluation board contains all the typical functions of an ADC such as analog complexity, input electronics, clock management, power supply management and digital filtering. The evaluation board is also used to measure performance of any mixed-signal system. It allows the ADC\'s dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), linearity, etc to be tested. It can also be used to evaluate and calibrate analog-to-digital conversion, as necessary.
The general working principle of the CDB5571-2 evaluation board is to sample an analog input signal and convert it into a digital equivalent, suitable for further processing by digital signal processors. The ADC is a device that converts analog signals into digital code signals for input to a digital computer. For ADCs, the input signal is converted to a digital signal within a certain range of accuracies. The ADC typically works by measuring the input voltage, which is then converted into a digital word that is then passed on to the digital output.
In order to improve the accuracy of the ADC, the digital word should accurately represent the analog input signal, and the range within which the ADC can measure should be optimized. The performance of the ADC can also be improved with low-noise reference signals and proper analog signal conditioning. The CDB5571-2 evaluation board inputs a variety of signals including sine waves, square waves, pulse signals, arbitrary waveforms, and spectrally flat noise in order to fully evaluate the performance of an ADC.
The CDB5571-2 evaluation board allows its users to assign the analog input signal to specific channel locations with flexibility and accuracy. Additionally, it supports a broad input range (commonly 0 - 2V) and noise isolation up to 20dBuV. The board comes with 8-bit resolution (as measured on a 12-bits ADC) and provides comprehensive control signals, internal or external clocks and a spectrum analyzer for analogy-to-digital measurements, both in real-time and offline.
The performance of the CDB5571-2 evaluation board also features jittered sampling, a digital test signal generator and a wide range of digital filters and programs. The evaluation board is divided into two components: a hardware component and a software component. The hardware component includes the input signal conditioning, the ADC, the reference voltage and the DC offset adjustment circuitry. The software component includes programs or EPROMs used to control the system.
