Working Principle

The working principle of the CDBA340L-HF is based on the PN junction. This is a region of charge carriers formed by the conduction and valence bands of oppositely doped semiconductor materials. When a reverse bias voltage is applied to the PN junction, the junction produces a depletion region in which electrons and holes are not able to move. This depletion region acts as an insulator, thus prohibiting the flow of charge carriers, thereby blocking the flow of current and operating as a rectifier.

When the applied voltage is reversed, the charge carriers in the depletion region recombine, producing a surge in the reverse current. This current is referred to as the ‘reverse recovery current’, and can cause problems in power management circuits if it is not managed properly. The CDBA340L-HF has an inherent characteristic called the ‘pre-bias lockout’, which prevents the device from switching on in the reverse direction until the reverse recovery current has decayed.
