Introduction

CDBMT240L-G is a single rectifier diode with a maximum current of 240A and reverse blocking voltage of 1000V. It is mainly used in applications requiring high current and voltage non-stop operation such as motor drives, welding machines, household appliances, and industrial equipment. Working Principle

Current flows through the diode when the reverse voltage is applied; however, the current flow stops when the forward voltage is applied. This is because a diode has different forward and reverse characteristics when biased. When connected in a circuit, the diode will only allow current to flow unidirectionally in the forward direction. The forward voltage drop of the device determines the current flow through the device.In the forward bias condition, the anode is at a higher voltage than the cathode, and the junction between them is formed. The junction becomes relatively thin, allowing the majority carriers (electrons) to cross easily from the P-type material to the N-type material. At the same time, the minority carriers (holes) are crossing from the N-type material to the P-type material. As a result, a current begins to flow in the forward wire.In the reverse bias condition, the voltage reversal causes negative charge carriers (into the N region) on the anode and positive charge carriers (out of the P region) on the cathode. The potential barrier is therefore formed across the junction, obviously the curvature of the junction is still present, but the majority carriers on each side of the junction are now too far away from each other for currents to flow. As a result, the diode is in the reverse-biased condition and no current flows through.
