The CDCLVD1204EVM is a single-stage, multi-output, integrated power supply for automotive applications. It incorporates Texas Instruments’ highly-integrated, low-power, high-speed LDOs (Low Dropout Voltage Regulators) with an integrated dual-channel voltage detection circuit and a dual-channel watchdog circuit. The EVM (Evaluation and Demonstration Board) is designed to evaluate the features and performance of the CDCLVD1204EVM.
The CDCLVD1204EVM is designed to provide efficient DC-DC step-down conversion as well as independent voltage regulation and protection. It consists of two LDOs with integrated parasitic diode protection, one positive and one negative voltage monitor, and one watchdog circuit with integrated window comparator. The EVM also offers several switching regulators, a power FET with over-voltage protection, a buck converter with a feature set, soft start, and over-voltage protection, two charge pumps for level shifter circuits, a sensing section, and a power LED indicator.
The CDCLVD1204EVM can be applied in a variety of automotive applications, such as automotive sensor and actuator signal conditioning systems, powertrain control systems, and automotive safety and convenience systems. It is also well suited for small-size handheld electronic devices, such as mobile phones, GPS devices, and medical instruments. It also enables higher efficiency, higher performance, and lower power consumption compared to conventional solutions.
The working principle of the CDCLVD1204EVM involves the buck and LDO topologies. The buck topology, also known as a step-down converter, is used to supply the main voltage bus of the EVM. The LDO topology is used to provide a voltage regulator for the peripheral circuits of the EVM. The EVM supplies a total of three output voltages of 3.3 V, 1.8 V, and 1.2 V. The three output voltages are regulated by the on-board Buck and LDO regulators.The EVM features an on-board load switch which allows the voltage outputs to be disconnected from the external load, and connected to a load of various resistance values to test the output performance of the regulators. In addition, the EVM has an integrated watchdog circuit with an adjustable cyclic rate and a window comparator, which can detect any malfunctioning of the system that can cause undetected faults in the system.
The CDCLVD1204EVM contains many features to ensure system safety, such as an integrated dual-channel voltage detection circuit, a dual-channel watchdog circuit, and undervoltage protection. The integrated voltage detection circuit provides two voltage monitoring points, a positive and a negative voltage. The dual-channel watchdog circuit can detect any error on the main bus and reset the system. The EVM’s undervoltage protection feature prevents the system from operating at a voltage lower than the specified limit. In addition, the EVM has an over-voltage protection feature to prevent system damage in case of accidental overvoltage.The CDCLVD1204EVM is an effective and cost-efficient solution for automotive and handheld electronic systems. It is a single-stage, multi-output power supply IC solution that can be used to supply a variety of system voltages.
