CDCS502PW is a precision low-phase-noise voltage-controlled clock synthesizer IC that offers a general-purpose clock generator, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL), or yield frequency synthesizer for timing and synchronization applications. The device is ideal for communications, test and measurement, and switching applications.

At the heart of the CDCS502PW is an on-chip precision voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that enables frequency adjustments over a programmable range. The oscillator frequency is controlled by a 10-bit DAC and 8-bit tunable fractional-N frequency prescaler. The device supports a nominal input frequency range of 370–795 MHz, and output frequency ranges of up to 28.8GHz, depending on the external components. The VCO output power is individually adjustable for both the core VCO and the reference VCO.

The device includes a Multi-input-MUX (MIMUX) and a range of features that support parallel, serial, dual-port, and PECL/LVDS (charge-pump) patterns. The control logic provides two dedicated control interfaces for the device, allowing for remote or local control. An internal reference clock is provided which is sourced from the VCO through a second PLL for improved phase noise performance. The device also features two differential output clocks, DOUT1 and DOUT2, one of which can be used for frequency synthesis.

The CDCS502PW has an integrated PLL that includes an on-chip loop filter and a selectable PLL bandwidth. The PLL supports a wide range of loop frequencies and lock ranges.
