CDLL4465 Application Field and Working Principle

CDLL4465 is a 3.0V (2.4V minimum) dual N-channel MOSFET optimized for high-speed switching applications. It incorporates advanced 0.65 micron PowerTrench® process that provides high performance with low on-resistance. This MOSFET is ideal for switching applications with low gate-charge and fast switching time.

The CDLL4465 is designed to operate from 2.4V to 3.6V and deliver a continuous drain current of 2.3A. It features a low 10nA leakage current and has a unique quick turn-off characteristic that prevents outputs from ringing. This device is available in a PowerPAK® SO-8 package and is discussed here.

Application Fields

Working Principle

The CDLL4465 is an N-channel power MOSFET based on the vertical double diffused MOS (VDMOS) structure. It consists of a p-type substrate and n-type source connected to a highly doped n-type epitaxial region and separated by a lightly doped n-type part. The operations of this MOSFET is based on its source and drain channels.

When the gate voltage is made positive with respect to the source voltage, the electrons in the channel between the source and the drain are repelled from the gate and migrate from the source to the drain. This creates an electron-rich channel in the source and a depletion layer in the drain which forms the path between the two. When the gate voltage is made negative with respect to the source voltage, the electrons in the channel between the source and the drain are attracted to the gate, leaving behind a hole-rich channel in the source and a depletion layer in the drain which blocks the flow of current.
