Working Principle

CDLL5254A is a single diode, with a low forward voltage drop, and a very reliable reverse breakdown voltage. It is a positive temperature coefficient Zener diode, which means its breakdown voltage increases with increasing temperature. When a voltage higher than its breakdown voltage is applied, some current starts to flow in the reverse direction through the diode, resulting in forward voltage drop. This forward voltage drop limits the output voltage and regulates the current, thereby providing protection.

When used in regulation circuits, CDLL5254A provides a stable reference voltage even under varying temperature conditions, as its reference voltage increases with temperature. This is useful in applications where relatively precise control over output voltage is required.
