CDLL6000

CDLL6000 is a class of commonly used, single-stage Zener diodes. This type of device functions by creating an avalanche breakdown in a lightly p-doped semiconductor junction in order to prevent current from exceeding a predetermined level. This breakdown does not interfere with other components in the circuit, allowing them to remain operational. At a certain critical voltage, the electrons become so energetic that they can overcome the electrostatic force that is holding them back and cascade down to the negative side of the p-n junction. This “avalanche” creates a large amount of current that can be used to regulate electric potential.

In addition to voltage regulation, the Zener diode can be used for a variety of applications. They are frequently used in pulse and switching circuits, bidirectional voltage regulation, and special temperature control applications. They can also be used to control and regulate power supplies, switch logic signals, and provide overload protection.

The working principle of a Zener diode is fairly straightforward. A diode designed to handle a certain voltage will become forward biased when the voltage across it passes a certain threshold. When this happens the diode will conduct current, allowing the circuit to begin working as normal. When the voltage across the diode drops back below the threshold, the diode will again stop conducting current, effectively acting as a switch.

Another important function of the Zener diode is to prevent excessive current from passing through the circuit. If the voltage across the diode exceeds the predetermined threshold, the diode will become “forward biased” and will start to conduct current. This excess current is then absorbed by the diode, preventing damage to the circuit.
