Working Principle

CDLL941A works based on the principle of PN junction. The PN junction is formed when a P-type semiconductor is connected to an N-type semiconductor. In CDLL941A diode, P and N regions are connected to each other forming a junction. When the diode is forward biased, the junction will allow electrons from N region to pass through and holes from P-region to come in, this is called diode forward biasing. On the other hand, when the diode is reverse biased the junction will not allow any current to flow through but it will happen once the reverse voltage reaches the breakdown voltage.In CDLL941A, the breakdown voltage is maximized and the forward voltage drop is minimized. This is done by coating a substance usually a nitride of Gallium (GaN) on the junction. The addition of GaN not only increases the Zener effect but also provides additional protection against thermal and current damage due to the presence of highly conductive GaN material. The GaN also increases the breakdown voltage of the device and ensures that very little current flows through when in forward biased.In short, the working principle of CDLL941A is the application of PN junction and the addition of GaN coating on the junction. The PN junction allows for the electrons to pass through and the addition of GaN helps to minimize the forward voltage drop and maximize the breakdown voltage. The diode then functions as a power supply regulator and voltage attenuator.
