This will cause an electric potential difference between the two electrodes of the capacitor, and thus the capacitor will be charged. Charging time determines capacitance value.

When the capacitor needs to be discharged, the positive and negative terminals of the capacitor are short-circuited or connected to the electrodes of the load. This will cause electrons to flow from the negative terminal of the capacitor to the positive terminal of the load. In this way, the capacitance value is reduced, thus completing the discharging process.
