Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as “electrolytic” capacitors, are polarized capacitors with non-solid including an electrolyte. They are constructed with two aluminum foils and a separator that is impregnated with an electrolyte. The foils are rolled into a cylindrical, rectangular or sometimes chip-shaped package. One of the foils encounters a large area of electrolyte, and one has etched leads, creating highly efficient energy storage capacitors.

CGS531T500R4L electrolytic capacitors are a type of e-CAP capacitor with an operating temperature range of -55°C to +105°C. It is suitable for use as power supply input and output filtering on DC/DC converters and related application circuits in industrial electronic equipment. The CGS531T500R4L is a miniature low profile aluminum electrolytic capacitor with a height of just 5mm and a diameter of 7mm, making it ideal for applications with limited mounting space.

The CGS531T500R4L consists of three main layers: steel, insulation paper and aluminum. The insulation paper is wrapped in a cylindrical shape and sandwiched between two layers of aluminum foil. The first layer of aluminum foil is etched to create the negative terminal. The second layer of aluminum foil is field-shaped and acts as the positive terminal. The capacitors are then filled with an electrolyte to provide the electric field in which currents flow.

In operation, the CGS531T500R4L functions as an energy storage device with a charge and discharge cycle. When a voltage is applied across the terminals, a current flows and a charge of equal magnitude builds up on the two sides of the capacitor. This charge, which is stored in the form of an electric field between the two plates, is the capacitor’s capacitance.

When a higher voltage is applied across the terminals, a larger current is drawn through the capacitor as it is discharged. During the discharge process, the electric field is relieved from one side, allowing the charge to flow through the circuit.
